Dr. Barker has played Men's Volleyball at Pepperdine University and after college coached the Boys and Girls Varsity teams at West High School in Torrance in the past. He was a setter and played club volleyball when attending Palos Verdes High School. He has a passion for volleyball and the fundamentals of the game. He has three children who all played volleyball in high school and his daughter played volleyball at Vanguard University.
